Large-Scale Hydropower For South Asia
GMR Upper Karnali Hydropower Limited is developing one of South Asia's largest cross-border hydroelectric projects on the Karnali River in Nepal under a Project Development Agreement with the Government of Nepal.
The 900 MW facility is structured for cross-border power export, with binding agreements for supply to Bangladesh and ongoing arrangements for power offtake in India. The asset spans multiple districts (Dailekh, Surkhet, and Achham districts) in Nepal and is designed as a long-term renewable energy source for the South Asian region.
Governance and Compliance
The project operates under a Project Development Agreement with the Government of Nepal, defining the regulatory and implementation framework.
A Memorandum of Agreement with SJVNL and IREDA, approved by the Government of India, outlines institutional participation and project development structure.
